Methenolone enanthate is an injectable anabolic steroid derived from dihydrotestosterone. Alongside oxandrolone it is the compound most often cited for female athletes, because its anabolic profile carries very low androgenic activity.

Milligram for milligram it is somewhat less anabolic than nandrolone decanoate.

How it works

Because androgenic activity is low, methenolone has limited effect on endogenous testosterone production at moderate doses, though it does suppress the hypothalamic-pituitary axis at higher ones.

As a DHT derivative it supports nitrogen retention and an anabolic environment. It is referenced mainly in cutting phases, where the goal is lean mass rather than raw mass, because it combines strong anabolic with weak androgenic and no estrogenic activity.

Reported protocols

Intramuscular. Reported ranges are 300 to 800 mg per week for men and 50 to 100 mg per week for women, set against experience and goal.

Reported effects

Historically used to treat anaemia from failing bone marrow, and in hospital settings for muscle wasting, osteoporosis and undernutrition.

In performance literature it is referenced for increased protein synthesis and nitrogen retention, and for fat loss.

Reported side effects

Milder than many comparable compounds, but acne, male-pattern baldness and oily skin are still reported. Cardiovascular effects are documented, and it raises cholesterol, so it is contraindicated where cholesterol is already high. Suppression of endogenous testosterone is the most significant reported effect. Because it does not aromatise, estrogenic effects are minimal.
